4 Days and 3 Nights

The combination of canoeing and walking allows us to fully discover this magical valley. We will gain an understanding of why Norman Rockwell, Ethan Allan, and Dorothy Canfield Fisher all chose to call this place home.

Our stay during this trip is at the Hill Farm Inn. Located just down the road from our shop the inn offers the perfect location to fully explore and discover this wonderful valley. The classic farmhouse has wide board floors, antique furnishings and true country charm. Innkeepers Al and Lisa Gray will be on hand to welcome us and make us feel immediately at home. We'll soon sense the warm feeling of timeless relaxation. We settle into Hill Farm Inn for our entire trip allowing us the opportunity to fully explore this valley by foot and canoe.

The Batten Kill is the focal point of our paddling. With over 40 miles of sparkling water and gentle rapids we will have plenty to choose from. The Batten Kill rises in the Green Mountains, flows through beautiful countryside and passes under four covered bridges on its way to the Hudson. Your guides will be happy to share their favorite sections of river along with sunny lunch spots and refreshing swimming holes.

The Taconic and Green Mountains offer an abundance of hiking and walking choices for us. We will explore backroads and pathways that lead us to hidden lakes and quiet overlooks. We will hike sections of America's most famous trail - the Appalachian Trail, and sections of our state's on wilderness footpath - the Long Trail.

After our four days of adventure our journey comes to a close. As we conclude our trip in the Valley of Vermont we look back on our time of stretched out space, of peace and quiet beauty, and begin to plan our next trip to this magical area.
